The Mets were founded in 1962 to replace the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers who had moved to California as the city’s National League baseball team. In 2015, the Mets won the National League pennant for the first time since 2000, but lost to the Kansas City Royals in five games in the World Series. Since their inception as a Major League Baseball franchise, they have won three World Series titles (1969, 1986, 2000), five National League pennants (1969, 1973, 1986, 2000), and six division titles (1969?71; 1973?74; 1999).
